Description

• Seeking a skilled research engineer aligned with the mission of AI safety • Pursue research projects in Power Aversion, Trojans, Machine Ethics, and Reward Hacking • Write and submit articles for top conferences • Collaborate with internal research staff and academics from top universities • Access to compute cluster for experiments on large language models • Grow the field of AI safety by advising and leading competitions, workshops, and socials at top ML conferences • Example Projects Include various research tasks such as fine-tuning large-scale transformers, designing new datasets, evaluating models in decision-making games, launching ML competitions, and collaborating with academics on transparency, robustness, and more

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science or related machine learning field • Co-authored an NLP paper in a top conference (bonus for being first author) • Aligned with the mission to reduce societal-scale risks from AI (bonus for having a point of view on technical problems) • Able to read and understand ML papers and relate them to broader literature (bonus for inspiring directions for future research) • Familiar with frameworks and libraries like pytorch and huggingface • Experience launching and training distributed ML jobs, scaling systems to hundreds or thousands of GPUs • Clear and prompt communication with technical and non-technical teams • Motivated to build the field of AI safety through events and initiatives • Ability to work well in large and small groups • Experience collaborating with technical and non-technical professionals
