• Own projects end-to-end, from proposal and alignment, to planning and initial design, to large-scale rollout. • Support engineers across Benchling to understand real time developer experience with our CI/CD pipelines, and recommend future investments. • Investigate issues, risks, tradeoffs, and improvement opportunities. • Assess opportunities given constraints and business goals. • Contribute to the next set of exciting projects on our roadmap: • Build automation and horizontal processes to bring us closer to truly continuous delivery and progressive software delivery. • Invest in technologies to optimize how we build, test, and deploy software, including progressive deployments like canarying. • Further the experience of engineers working in microservices. • Bring our continuous and validated (quarterly) release infrastructures closer together, by having a higher-level view into Benchling infrastructure and production systems. • Habitual responsibility for and innate interest in developer experience quality and performance. • Further engineering culture, practices, and processes throughout the organization and company. • Advocate for the success of the team and for your own career, growth, and interests.
• 6 or more years of experience as a DevOps engineer or software engineer building infrastructure and/or internal tooling • Experience with deployment and configuration management frameworks such as Terraform (IaC); with CI/CD systems such as BuildKite or Jenkins; and with containers and container management systems such as Kubernetes or Amazon ECS. • Understanding of cloud computing, virtualization, and microservices architectures, and experience with major cloud platforms, especially AWS. • Strong communication (oral and written), influence, and presentation skills. Ability to accept conflict and face it head on, strategically. • Repeated experience leading projects with multiple engineers and diverse stakeholders, with tech plans and long-term project management. • A track record of 1:1 technical mentorship on teams and within organizations. • Enthusiastic about working onsite in our SF office 3 days a week. • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
